Powder Bath Transformation

In the modern farmhouse renovation one of the easiest projects to tackle first seemed to be the powder bath. For starters it seemed like a small room that we could conquer easily. Little did I know this dark, dreary, rose covered space would turn out to take a little more time than I thought.

However, I did prevail in the end. A small bathroom will not defeat me! I already had a vision in my head of what I wanted to do to the space.

The wallpaper was the first thing to come down. Wallpaper can be tricky but with the right tools (a scraper, a scoring tool and spray) it will come off easily. Believe me I have tried everything on the 1,000,000 walls I have removed wallpaper from. Hot water by itself rarely works effectively. A steamer is often overkill unless the wallpaper has been there for over 30 years. I also wanted to add a box patterned board and batten of sorts to change it up. I found an old window that I turned to a mirror. I put in a new pedestal sink (because the prior one was cracked in the basin), and I changed the faucet and hardware.

Lastly, I had David build a sliding barn door cabinet above the toilet for storage. It is ADORABLE! David built the piece based on Shanty2Chic plans but modified it to fit our needs. He also custom crafted the hardware and wooden wheels. I go gaga over these adorable wooden wheels. It reminds me of those old fashioned wooden toy trucks that bring you back to a simpler time....

Or maybe that is just me. Anyhow, the finished product is beautiful. I used Chelsea Grey on the walls by Benjamin Moore and a bright white on the box board and batten.  I really enjoy hiding in there at times when I need 5 minutes of silence. You know what I mean right?  Here is the finished room. What do you think?
